It’s time to master local SEO
Local SEO is essential for brick-and-mortar stores or local service providers. Local companies need to implement search engine optimization techniques that make their websites visible for buyers in a specific geographical area.
Why is local SEO important?
As much as 46% of Google queries are focused on local information. And most people who find what they need online also visit the local store in the following 24 hours. Moreover, 8 out of 10 internet users look for a business online before visiting it. If that wasn’t enough, you should also know that 71% of buyers use their smartphones to learn more about your products while they’re already in your store.
A strong local online presence impacts user experience and sales significantly. If you’re running a local business, you must make sure that your website can be found online quickly by potential buyers.
If you need to boost local search, here’s what you should start working on today:
- If you skipped the tasks for making your website mobile-friendly, make sure you catch up (Day 16). Most local searches happen on smartphones, so there’s no way you can postpone this.
- Sign up for a Google My Business account. It takes a few days to get confirmation, but it’s the perfect way to tell Google what you do and where people can find you. Once you have an account, use it! Publish photos, write notes, encourage people to leave reviews, update working hours–every action shows Google that you’re active and ready to do business.
- List your company in business directories, like Foursquare, Yellow pages, Apple Maps, or Bing. A Facebook page it’s also a cost-effective way to enforce your local online presence.
- Target long-tail keywords that include your region or city. Ideally, you want to focus on keywords that include the place and the type of service that you offer, such as “carpet cleaning services in London” or “handmade leather bags in Berlin.”
Here’s a long-term task for you. Use social proof to enforce your local presence. Ask your clients to write reviews and share their experiences online with other people interested in your services. Customers trust online reviews, and they’re more likely to buy if you manage to enrich your online presence with some 5-star reviews.
